BIG BAMBOO ISLAND

Big Bamboo Island is named for its abundance of bamboo and is located on the west of Con Son Island. It covers 77 hectares and the highest peak is 142 meters. The island is home to the white Gầm Ghì pigeons (a type of wild dove) that come here to nest and lay eggs. It also has the second-largest number of sea turtles laying eggs among the islands of the Con Son archipelago. The island is covered with many Bàng Vuông trees along the coastline. The northern, western, and southern sides of the island have beautiful coral reefs in various colors. Before 1945, Big Bamboo Island was used as a prison for political prisoners.
